Early literacy is a key priority and children in nursery are exposed to a rich diet of quality stories, a wide range of books, nursery rhymes and new, ambitious vocabulary. The expansion of children’s spoken language underpins all seven areas of learning and development and our curriculum ensures that our pupils access high quality conversation and social interaction daily in a language rich environment. As children enter nursery their language skills and understanding are assessed using WELLCOMM. This allows staff to identify gaps early and offer intervention to support these skills as part of the children’s preparations for school readiness.
